This individual’s time will be divided between two main categories of responsibility. The position serves to assist Engineering in the new product development process with key concentration in the area of prototype fabrication of new product designs and design/fabrication of prototype and production fixtures for new product designs. It also serves to assist Engineering and Customer Service/Sales in supporting existing major equipment WIKA sells to its customers (e.g. equipment for servicing SF6 applications) as well as providing design and development direction for the same. This position may also include occasional field service of such major equipment at customer’s locations.

Prototype-Process Engineering Technician

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

 

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new fixtures and some equipment as well as process improvements related primarily to new product development.
  • Serve as key contact between WILP and select Center of Excellence (CoE) areas in WIKA Klingenberg (e.g. SF6 products)

  • Provide occasional field service support for major equipment (e.g. GPU-2000 units)

  • Trouble shoot existing processes and new processes related primarily to new product development activities

  • Assist Engineering in prototyping activities primarily related to new product development

  • Provide design direction to Engineering with regard to application-specific product/scope changes to existing products.

  • Responsible for all aspects of prototyping (e.g. fabrication, fixtures, machining, etc.)

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

 

  • Build prototypes parts/assemblies
  • Build prototype and production fixtures and some new equipment.

  • Schedule and provide occasional field service to support Engineering, Customer Service and Sales.

  • Implement manufacturing process improvements

  • Support procurement and engineering with knowledge base in manufacturing processes

  • Make design recommendations for manufacturability to Engineering
  • Support Manufacturing to implement the vision established as needed
  • Support/deliver training related to primary areas of responsibility as needed 

 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

  • Three to five years tool and die or machinist experience. 
  • Three to five years of experience fabricating and supporting design changes to production equipment used to manufacture small-to-medium sized complex products for consumers and/or industrial use.

  • Five years of related experience in manufacturing, or related fields required.

  • Technical degree preferred.

  • Demonstrable ability to intuitively think outside the box and pursue both designs even if they are unorthodox; multi-industry experience is preferred for this reason.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • CAD experience (preferably with PTC Creo) is strongly preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of GD&T
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering designs required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 20%) and internationally (occasionally)

  • Knowledge of  lean manufacturing, continuous flow, process improvement
  • Ability to grasp modern technology quickly and work in a team environment
  • Enthusiastic, cooperative, and positive behavior.
